How do you add FAQ schema to a page?
To add FAQ schema, place a JSON-LD script of type FAQPage on the page, listing each visible question with its answer as a Question and acceptedAnswer pair, then test it in Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator. Since 2023, Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known government and health sites, but the markup still helps answer engines understand your questions and answers.
Know what FAQ schema does in 2026
Schema is structured data: code in the page that labels its content for machines. FAQPage schema tells them this page contains these questions and these answers. In 2023, Google limited FAQ rich results, the expandable questions under a search result, to well-known authoritative government and health websites. For most businesses, those dropdowns will not appear.
The markup still earns its place. It gives search engines and AI systems an unambiguous map of your questions and answers, and it takes little effort when the FAQ content already exists.
Write the visible FAQ first
The schema must match questions and answers visitors can see on the page. Use real questions customers ask, in their words, with answers of one to three sentences. Do not mark up hidden content or questions that are not on the page, and do not use FAQ markup for advertising.
Add the markup in five steps
- 01
Add a script block of type application/ld+json to the page.
- 02
Set @context to https://schema.org and @type to FAQPage.
- 03
Add a mainEntity list with one Question per question, each with a name (the question) and an acceptedAnswer of type Answer whose text is the answer.
- 04
Copy the question and answer wording exactly as it appears on the page.
- 05
On Shopify, WordPress or Webflow, use the theme's custom code area, a custom field or a well-reviewed app rather than editing core files.
Test it, then keep it in sync
Run the page through the Schema Markup Validator at validator.schema.org to check the structure, and through Google's Rich Results Test to catch errors. Watch Search Console for structured data warnings. Whenever you edit an answer on the page, update the schema too, because mismatched markup can be ignored.

Follow-up questions
Can I put FAQ schema on every page?
Only on pages that genuinely contain a list of questions and answers. Repeating the same FAQ markup across the site adds nothing and can look manipulative.
Is FAQ schema the same as QAPage schema?
No. FAQPage is for questions the site owner answers. QAPage is for pages where users submit answers to one question, like a forum thread.
