How to show up in People Also Ask

For marketers and owners who see the People Also Ask box on their key searches and want their pages quoted in it. After reading, you can collect the right questions, organize them into pages and write answers that fit the box.

In one paragraph

To show up in People Also Ask, collect the follow-up questions Google already lists for your topic, then answer each one on a relevant page under a heading that matches its wording, in a short paragraph or list. The box pulls answers from many pages, so one strong guide can earn several slots. Say a florist writes a funeral flowers guide that answers 6 questions from the box, such as 'what color flowers are appropriate for a funeral'. Each answer is a separate chance to appear.

People Also Ask is a growing list of related questions

People Also Ask (often shortened to PAA) is a box of related questions that appears on many Google searches. Each question expands to show a short answer quoted from a web page, with a link to that page. When someone opens one question, Google often adds more questions to the bottom of the list.

This makes PAA wide open compared with the featured snippet. A single search can show answers from four or more different sites, and the same question appears across many related searches. The page Google quotes for a PAA question is usually one that would also do well if someone searched that question directly.

Collect the questions straight from the results

The best source of PAA targets is the box itself, because it shows what Google already connects to your topic.

  • Tools such as AlsoAsked map PAA questions for you, which saves time once your list grows past a few dozen.
  1. 01

Search your main topic in a private browser window, such as 'funeral flowers'.

  2. 02

Open three or four of the PAA questions so Google loads more, and copy them all into a sheet.

  3. 03

Repeat for two or three close variations of the topic.

  4. 04

Add question searches from Google Search Console and the questions customers send you.

  5. 05

Remove duplicates and anything you cannot answer with real knowledge.

Group questions and give each group one home

Questions that share a purpose should live on one strong page, not on many thin ones. Sort your list into groups: cost questions, how-to questions, etiquette or safety questions, comparison questions.

Each group becomes a guide or a section of an existing page. The main question is the page title, and the follow-up questions become headings within it. This keeps the page useful for readers and gives search engines clear, labeled answers to choose from. Fifty separate pages with one short answer each tend to look thin and compete with each other.

Write each answer to fit the box

Every PAA answer is quoted on its own, so each one needs the same answer-first shape as a featured snippet. Use the question, or close wording, as the heading. Put a two or three sentence answer right below it, roughly 40 to 60 words, that names the subject and answers fully.

Match the shape of the answer Google currently shows. If the PAA answer for a question is a list, give a list. If it is a paragraph, give a paragraph. Then add any depth after the short answer, so readers who click through get more than the box showed them.

Show the trust signals that tip the choice

When several pages give similar answers, the more trustworthy page tends to win. Accuracy comes first: check every fact, price and time frame.

Then make trust visible. Show who wrote or reviewed the page and why they know the subject, such as a licensed nurse for a med spa or a head florist with 15 years of experience. Show the date it was last updated, and update it when facts change. For health, money and safety topics, Google holds pages to a higher standard, so expert review matters even more.

Quick answers

Questions people ask

Do I need to rank first to appear in People Also Ask?

Not for your main topic. PAA quotes pages for each individual question, so a page that answers a follow-up question well can appear even if it ranks lower for the main search.

Why do PAA questions change when I search again?

Google adjusts the box by location, device and recent behavior, and it adds questions as people open others. Check from a private window and record a few runs.

Should I put PAA questions in FAQ schema?

You can, if they appear visibly on the page as real questions and answers. The schema labels them, but the visible answer is what Google quotes.
